Endumeni Community Safety Forum Quarterly Meeting Held Successfully

The Endumeni Community Safety Forum (CSF) Quarterly Meeting was successfully held today, 02 June 2026, at the Endumeni Municipality Council Chamber under the leadership of His Worship the Mayor, Cllr A.M. Mkhize.

The meeting brought together a wide range of stakeholders committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the Endumeni community. Among those in attendance were representatives from the South African Police Service (SAPS), Correctional Services, Community Safety and Liaison, Endumeni Local Municipality officials, security sector representatives, Make Dundee Live Again members, and other community stakeholders.

The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and discuss key safety and service delivery matters affecting residents across Endumeni. Various reports and presentations were tabled, including the quarterly Community Safety report, a crime overview report for the period January to March 2026, traffic law enforcement activities, electricity theft challenges, housing matters, vending permits issued during the quarter, and challenges faced by security officers operating within the municipality.

One of the key discussion points raised during the meeting was the enforcement of municipal by-laws. Community members and stakeholders highlighted concerns regarding compliance with municipal regulations and the impact of non-compliance on public safety, cleanliness, and economic activities. The meeting resolved that efforts to enforce by-laws must be strengthened and that relevant municipal departments will continue working towards addressing these concerns to ensure a safe and orderly environment for all residents.

The issue of illegal foreign nationals and the operation of certain spaza shops within the municipality also received significant attention. While representatives from the Department of Home Affairs and Immigration were not present at the meeting, stakeholders expressed concerns regarding undocumented individuals, compliance with business regulations, and allegations of expired food products being sold to members of the public.

In response to these concerns, His Worship the Mayor, Cllr A.M. Mkhize, informed the meeting that he will formally write to the Office of the Premier to seek guidance and ensure that all interventions undertaken by the municipality and relevant stakeholders are fully aligned with the law and applicable government processes. The Mayor further emphasized the importance of addressing community concerns in a lawful, coordinated, and responsible manner.

The meeting also noted the importance of ongoing partnerships between government departments, law enforcement agencies, community organizations, businesses, and residents in addressing crime and social challenges within Endumeni. Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to working together to create a safer, cleaner, and more prosperous community.

The Endumeni Community Safety Forum remains a vital platform for engagement, information sharing, problem-solving, and coordinated action among stakeholders. Through continued collaboration and active community participation, the municipality aims to address challenges facing residents while promoting safety, accountability, and sustainable development.

Endumeni Local Municipality extends its appreciation to all stakeholders who attended and contributed to the success of the meeting. Their participation demonstrates a shared commitment to building a safer and more secure Endumeni for present and future generations.

Okwabantu Ebantwini Mayoral Imbizo

The people of Endumeni Local Municipality gathered in large numbers today at the Dundee Traditional Horse Riding Track for the much-anticipated Okwabantu Ebantwini Mayoral Imbizo—a day that blended community engagement, service delivery, and tangible progress.

Led by His Worship the Mayor, Cllr. AM Mkhize, the imbizo created a platform for residents to directly engage with leadership, raise concerns, and hear first-hand about plans shaping the municipality’s future. The programme was further strengthened by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, who delivered a keynote address emphasizing infrastructure development and improved mobility.

A major highlight of the day was the official unveiling of newly acquired yellow plant machinery—an investment set to significantly improve service delivery across Endumeni. The fleet includes a tipper truck, grader, water tanker, and cherry picker, all aimed at addressing critical challenges such as road maintenance, water supply, and general infrastructure upkeep.

Mayor Mkhize also unpacked the draft budget and Integrated Development Plan (IDP) for the upcoming financial year, outlining key priorities and encouraging community input to ensure inclusive and people-driven development. Key announcements included:

• Provision of 100kWh of free basic electricity to indigent households in line with National Energy Regulator of South Africa regulations.

• An electricity tariff increase of 13% effective from 1 July.

• A 3% increase in property rates.

• A 2% increase in refuse removal tariffs.

The day was made even more meaningful through a powerful show of support for local economic growth. Sixteen small businesses—many of them youth-owned—benefited from grant funding and essential equipment. Items distributed included sewing machines, laptops, printers, brush cutters, gas stoves, chairs and tables, generators, and direct financial support. This initiative underscores the municipality’s ongoing commitment to empowering small and emerging enterprises.

With community voices heard, resources delivered, and development plans shared, today’s imbizo stood as a clear demonstration of a municipality working hand in hand with its people—taking services to the community and building a future rooted in opportunity and progress.
