Project Description
Disaster Management Social Intervention Programme
Location
Endumeni Municipality
Ward
Wards 1, 3 and 7
Date
6 January 2026

The Endumeni Disaster Management Mayoral Social Intervention Programme officially commenced on 06 January 2026 at the eNdumeni Council Chamber, following the recent severe storms that engulfed Endumeni and surrounding areas.

The programme began with a comprehensive briefing session, during which the Disaster Management Unit presented a detailed overview of the situation on the ground. The unit highlighted the hard-hit areas and households that were severely affected by the heavy rains experienced on the 20th, 26th, 27th and 31st of December 2025.

During the briefing, it was reported that more than 567 family members across an estimated 101 households were impacted, with damages ranging from flooded homes to loss of essential household items.

The briefing further outlined the challenges encountered during the initial response, including limited resources which resulted in some households not receiving immediate assistance. This engagement ensured that leadership and stakeholders had a shared understanding of priority areas requiring urgent intervention.

Following the briefing and programme outline, the intervention moved into action. The Mayoral team, together with Disaster Management, Community Services, and other relevant municipal officials, visited affected households in Wards 1, 3 and 7. During these visits, the team hand-delivered social relief packages, including basic groceries, to families who were severely affected by the storms.

The Honorable Mayor reiterated the municipality’s commitment to responsive governance and community support, emphasizing that the intervention was aimed at restoring dignity and providing immediate relief to affected households. The programme demonstrated the municipality’s dedication to ensuring that no community is left behind in times of disaster and hardship.
