MAYORAL MESSAGE

ENDUMENI MUNICIPALITY

MAYORAL MESSAGE
by Cllr (Ms) W N Mbatha

I extend greetings to you on behalf of the Endumeni Municipal Council and would like to take this opportunity to introduce to you our area and the people that make our region hospitable, a delight to visit and a pleasure to reside in.

Nestling in a valley in the picturesque Biggarsberg are the towns of Dundee and Glencoe.  At the base of Indumeni mountain, the highest peak in the Biggarsberg range of mountains, is Wasbank, a small town with some unique characteristics.  It is these towns and the rural areas surrounding them that form the Endumeni municipal area.  Indumeni, a Zulu name, means ''where the thunder rolls'' and the area around this mountain is Endumeni, hence the name of the municipal authority of this area.

Situated equidistant between Durban and Johannesburg, with well established road, rail and air infrastructure, the Endumeni region is the geographic center of northern KwaZulu-Natal.  There are numerous branches of provincial and national government departments in Dundee.

Dundee and Glencoe have well established and serviced areas for industry.  The towns have a good and consistent supply of water, with six dams and a pipeline from the Umzinyathi/Buffalo river feeding the area.

Long term planning has ensured that water and power supplies will meet any future demands, and the area's infrastructure is geared for industrial expansion.

The area has a fascinating and varied history, which is reflected in the stately homes and architecturally interesting and commercial buildings.  A number of the lovely old homes in the towns and on nearby farms have been converted into tourist accommodation.  Hotels, guest and farm lodges, bed & breakfast, self-catering cottages and caravan parks, offer visitors a wide range of excellent quality accommodation.

We, as the residents of Endumeni, can boast a rich cultural and religious diversity that is characteristic of the region, and through our unified strength, we have endured and steadfastly ensured our survival even in the harshest of economic climates.

Through our motto ''Together in Prosperity'' we have encompassed a vision which states that ''Endumeni, being at the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal battlefields, is a dynamic, developmentally focused Municipality, working in partnership with all its people for the promotion of a sustainable, harmonious and balanced development of its urban and rural communities''.  With these words may
I therefore invite and welcome you to Endumeni.
