AERODROME, RAILWAY AND ROAD CONNECTIONS

The aerodrome has a 1300m tarmac runway with landing lights and hanger facilities. Endumeni is connected to all the metropolitan areas by a major road network. The area is situated 310km from Durban, 293km from Johannesburg and 218km from Richards Bay. It is also noteworthy that Endumeni is the central urban area of the North Western Kwazulu- Natal, being 60km from Newcastle, 70km from Ladysmith and 70km from Vryheid. From Endumeni and the Endumeni industrial areas there are proper electrified rail connections to the ports of Durban and Richards Bay as well as the Johannesburg/ Gauteng metro area.

AVAILABILITY OF LAND

Land for industrial and residential development is available from the local authority at very reasonable prices. All such properties are serviced by municipal services and a number of industrial sites can be serviced with railway siding facilities. Click here for more information.

AVAILABILITY OF LABOUR

The area has available a substantial resident labour force, (skilled, semi skilled and unskilled). The layout of the area is such that local labour is not entirely dependent upon public transport to reach industrial areas. Most of the potential labour force are permanent residents and thus represent a stable workforce.

CLIMATE

Endumeni is typical of what can be termed an interior river basin which receives rainfall during the summer months when the sub-tropical high pressure belt moves over the sub-continent. Endumeni is a low rainfall area receiving an average annual rainfall of 635 mm. The largest percentage is experienced during October to February. Winters are normally dry.

The mean summer temperature in 25 degreesC (maximum) and in winter it is 5 degreesC (minimum). Because of even topography temperature inversions occur regularly during winter months and frost occurs in June and  July. The coldest moths are June, July, August. The number of frost days per annum average around 60 days. Snow occurs periodically on high lying areas.
